One Four Challenge: Lamp Post I – radiating

It’s time for the first One Four Challenge of this year, hosted by Robyn, where we process a single image (of our choosing) four different ways. This post’s actually probably late, because there already are about a hundred others published for the challenge. I’d been wondering at the end of last month about whether I’m going to take part in the challenge this month (since I don’t post too often in the first place), and if I am, which photograph I’m going to choose. And I forgot to decide! 😥 I hastily browsed through my pictures, but I think I’ll just stick with one that was a candidate last month — a lamp post.

This lamp post is one of several in the gardens around the Royal Palace of La Granja, Spain. The original photograph will be on display in my final post for this month’s challenge.

I’d intended to not apply drastic effects (like, say, a color splash 😉 ) this time, but seeing that I didn’t spend hours browsing through my photo stash to find a versatile photograph, I’m hoping that I’ll keep this promise. (Now there’s my challenge! 🙂 Right?)

For this version, I applied a zoom blur radiating outward from the light in the lamp post, and tinted the image a tiny bit of yellow to make the scenery somewhat warmer. (It was really cold that day.) I like how the blur masks the distracting piece of sky at the top and keeps the focus on the foreground.

      I really liked your birds too, but I felt I couldn’t add anything to what everybody else had already said. Maybe next week, I’ll be quicker and get to your post first. 😉

  6. Hi Anita, I think it is a lovely image and the choice of the zoom blur is unique and yet works beautifully here with all the tree branches in alignment with the blur.

    I know what you mean about not having an image all prepared, my last month challenge was like that too 🙂 This time I took ages to pick one!

    • Thank you for the nice comment, Stacey! I was happy when I didn’t have to work too hard for this version, but yes, now is when the challenge really begins for me. 🙂

      Considering that you were in the same boat last month, you did a neat job! I’m waiting for inspiration to strike from the submissions of this week. 😀

        • You did mention that course in your post, but since I don’t use PS, I’m just filing away that information for a time far into the future… 🙂

          Oh, one monochrome is definitely going to be there. 😀 I’m just hoping it’ll incorporate something that’s new for me.

  7. I like your picture 🙂 What if you try to keep the lamp post (or another part of the picture) in color for the monochrome version? I am curious to see what you will do with it. And BTW I don’t think you are late. Robyn explicitly says you have time to post till the following week 😉 So for me everyone that posts the first picture before the 2. Sunday is in time!

    • The color-splash in monochrome is a good idea, Sari. But I have to admit there’s not much color in the picture in the first place 🙂 — except for those shrubs, which I’m not too keen to highlight! I might experiment with adding artificial coloring to the lamp post…

      And you’re right about me not being late. I realized it after the publishing. 😀 In any case, choosing an image with eyes closed is probably the right way to go here, because it’ll make one get out of their comfort zone… 😉

      I’m pretty pleased that the blur works. (Proof that sometimes, your first idea is the best one. 😉 ) And thankfully, I now have a couple more ideas for the weeks to come…
